in the bible in Acts a silversmith talked to Paul about Artemis?
Does anybody know of what happened to the belief in Artemis I haven’t heard much about Artemis and the sliversmith said that the people in the whole earth worshiped her does anybody know stories about Artemis?
It was all about the money Lolly.
Artemis was the Greek name of the goddess Diana. She was worshiped as the goddess of the moon and hunting and was the twin sister of Apollo. They had her temple at Ephesus and the temple was one of the seven wonders of the world. She was a ‘virgin goddess’ and was more a fertility cult than anything else.
The silversmiths had a field day making money on statuettes of her and small shrines of her temple. When Paul visited Ephesus he caused a riot because the men were losing money because of Paul’s spreading of the word.
Artemis was not worshiped in the whole world, it was propaganda by the silversmiths who where losing money.
Her cult went the same way the rest of the Greek myths went.
Into obscurity only to be raised again as a fairytale story. As it should be.
